Emma & Ben — A Love Story Written in Snow and Sunset
Some love stories unfold loudly.
This one unfolded gently — in snow, sunset, and the moment everything changed.
Emma’s mom originally reached out to me to book what she knew would be more than a simple extended family session. All of her girls would be in town, and she wanted photos inside and out so everyone — especially Hannah’s little daughter — could stay warm and comfortable.
But then she added quietly,
“There’s more… Ben is going to propose.”
From that moment on, this wasn’t just a family session — it was a secret mission.
Together, we planned a moment that would feel natural, effortless, and completely them. Something sweet. Something subtle. Something Emma would never see coming. The idea was simple:
I would notice that Ben’s shoe was untied.
I would point it out.
And he would drop to one knee.
December 21st arrived cold and glowing — the kind of winter evening where everything feels still and sacred. We moved through family portraits inside and out, laughter echoing through the house and snow crunching softly beneath our feet. And then, right at sunset, it was Emma and Ben’s turn for their couple portraits.
The sky was painted in soft winter gold as I casually said,
“Hey Ben… your shoe is untied.”
Ben smiled — and never tied it.
Instead, he dropped to one knee in the snow and opened a small brown ring box — simple, unassuming, and holding the biggest question of his life.
Emma froze. Her hands flew to her face. For a second, she didn’t believe it was real — not here, not now, not so openly — and yet it was the most perfect way he could have done it. So honest. So expected. So Ben. So full of love.
He asked.
She said yes.
Tears welled in Ben’s eyes as he slid the ring onto her finger. One quiet tear slipped free — not from nerves, but from the weight of loving someone so deeply it overwhelms you. Emma laughed and cried all at once, staring at her hand like she was seeing her future written right there in front of her.
And just then, the clouds parted.
Golden sunset light spilled across the snow, wrapping them in warmth, turning their breath into glowing air and their love into something you could almost see. It was one of those rare, fleeting moments when everything aligns — and we were lucky enough to capture it.
Behind me, their family rushed forward — laughter, tears, and joy filling the cold winter air. Emma’s middle sister Maddie laughed and said,
“I can see that rock from here!”
And truly… it sparkled.
What unfolded wasn’t just a proposal. It was a memory being written — in snow, in light, and in love. A story Emma and Ben will tell for the rest of their lives.
Emma & Ben, thank you for letting me witness and preserve this moment for you. Your love is gentle, powerful, and beautifully real.
Congratulations on the beginning of everything 🤍
